History Day Unit - Part 1 (The Research Paper) and Part 2 (The Project)
This unit is an integrated unit between language arts and social studies. In Part 1, the students choose a research topic based on the current year's National History Day theme, conduct research, and write a research paper. In Part 2, the students create a project based upon the research they have done. They will choose one of five project choices - historical paper, exhibit, documentary, website, or performance.
Overarching EQ (of both parts of the unit for this year) Does the individual influence history, or does history influence the individual?
Curriculum framing questions for Part 1 (The Research Paper) What is research, and how do I do it? What is a research paper, and how do I write one?
Curriculum framing questions for Part 2 (The Project) Which of the five project choices (historical paper, exhibit, website, performance, or documentary) will best showcase my research?
Is being part of a group best for me, or would I rather work alone? What is a process paper, and how do I write one?
